El senador del Pacto Histórico Iván Cepedalaws tougher challenge: summoned the Minister of Agriculture, Indalecio Dangond Baquero, to a political control debate that will be held on Tuesday, October 13, in Congress.
According to Cepeda, the minister already received the formal notice and the questionnaires for his first debate of this period. One of the opposition’s central issues is the repeal of the decrees that created the Áreas de Protección para la Producción de Alimentos (APPA).
These areas protected land for agriculture and restricted real estate and industrial projects in La Guajira, Antioquia, Santander and Tolima. Opposition lawmakers warn that revoking the rules could hurt food production, especially in southern La Guajira, where rice cultivation had been prioritized.
